The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of S.D. Eidelman. He was outstanding Ukrainian mathematician, talented teacher, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, graduate of Chernivtsi University in 1948, founder of the famous scientific school on the theory of parabolic partial differential equations. Main research papers and books by Samuil Davidovich are devoted to partial differential equations, especially to the theory of parabolic systems where he obtained a number of basic results. They made S.D. Eidelman widely known among mathematicians. Understanding that the most interesting and important results can be obtained at intersections of different branches of science, he dealt successfully with mathematical models of real world objects. S.D. Eidelman devoted the whole his long life to mathematics, pure and applied. He saw the unity of both as a special strength and beauty.

His daily research work was his passion and natural need. The article briefly describes the main milestones in the life and work of the hero of the day as a scientist and teacher, as well as character traits as an outstanding personality.
